2.5 on the forefoot. I can't wait until my calves acclimate to this because it feels much more efficient than the way I've been running up to this point. Just "jogging" is about 30s/mi faster than my previous quick pace.

I remember the time I spent doing this. As soon as the calf pain subsided it was like I shed 50 pounds or something. You will be sore for about a month though probably.

Just don't make the mistake I did by running exclusively on your forefoot :embar:

Initially I thought that's what I was supposed to do and constantly had tight/sore calves. Ended up landing on a site that really explained proper technique by stating that your heel should "lightly kiss the ground", which totally has made a difference.

The first run was definitely just on my forefoot, but i've been focusing and making sure that my heel does make contact. BTW, everyone should search for "Boston Marathon slo mo" on YouTube. Nice vids of the elite runners' strides and footfalls. There's interesting variation among them and also within an individual's technique.

I put in 9.5 miles this afternoon and then it started snowing on me for the last mile and a half or so... WTF? I definitely was not expecting that. Oh well, it wasn't particularly cold.

5 yesterday, none today cause of work.
Did some executive tours of the new hospital (realized I never really annouced my new job, its at Rush University Medical Center).
Holy crap this new hospital is amazing in every way.
Ill hit a long-ish run tomorrow 10-12 miles.

Getting faster, the fitness is building, the calves are happy.

Regarding the transition to mid-foot. there is a huge difference between a mid-foot strike and a fore-foot strike.
do not be afraid to move back to heel striking if your calf is stressed during a run. Its not worth the damage you can do if you dont.

What shoes did you get?

5 miles this morning. A good run, and I would have continued longer but I had to get ready for an 8 a.m. presentation.

If that question is for me, I'm running in some Adidas that are basically flats with very little padding. I'm waiting to see if I can actually make the transition before buying new shoes.

1.15 this morning - first run with New Balance Minimus shoes. Figured I'd start very small while moving away from a heel strike stride. My feet are a bit sore (which is normal for me, unfortunately, and one of the reasons I'm trying to change my stride), but calves feel fine. Actually, I've been conscious of my stride for the last week or so while still running in my old running shoes, which led to some minor calf soreness following those runs. Will run longer next time out in the new shoes. I'll also be holding onto old shoes for longer runs (which I've not done in several weeks anyways).

"Rush" University Medical Center? An appropriate name for a runner!
