Wow - congratulations!

Sunday: 8 miles, 64:34, achilles got a bit tender, so I rested it.

Today: 5.3 miles in 42:14, felt okay but really really want to start with speedwork.

So, when are you applying to run Western States? It's only another 50 miles longer.

Im back, I decided since I am getting surgery sometime in the future, and the time off has healed the pain, why not run?

4 runs in the past week,
1st was 1.2 miles
2nd was 3.1 miles (5K race)
3rd was 2.5 miles
4th was 4 miles.

No ankle pain, lungs burned but man it felt good to turn my legs over.

Hopefully, I will have a bone donor soon and can heal and be ready for real mileage in the late spring.

6.5 untimed in the pouring rain. Then 2x1mile later in 6:08 and 5:25 in the new racing flats.
Shoes weighed about 1lb each after the second mile of the first run - but I am just bitching.
Way to go on the North Face Endurance Mylesmyles thats whats up!
What kind of shoes did you run it in/did you get a sweet belt buckle???

thank you both - it was my second and quite an experience. Though I don't think I'm ready for Western States, that won't stop me from submitting my appication in a few weeks....

No belt buckle but you get a pretty descent ribbon for finishing. The course was a little tougher than I expected, aobut 95% single track and lots of hills, which wore on me as time went on.

Wore Saucony Xodus 2.0's. Ran great but I am definitley going to move to a lighter trail runner for my next ultra.

Glad you're on the mend, and good luck finding a donor.

...

Last night a marathoner friend and I were trading emails and she questioned my need for blind, bulk mileage. Her position is that speedwork matters and ought to be done more than just once a week or so - if total mileage falls, then so be it.

So I went out this morning for a quick 4 - finished in 27:41, which is - to my recollection - the fastest 4 I've run in a long time.
