Or maybe its a clever plot by NFL to keep fanboys talking about football during the off season?

This is the same NFL who can't figure out how to run an all-star game. I don't think they're that clever.

Yes, but the voters seem to be applying the "playoffs matter" requirement to WRs only. Curtis Martin never won a ring either.

Yes but a RBs average playing life is roughly 4 years. To do what Martin did was great. I too don't think playoffs matter.

They are clever enough to be the top sport in the US by a long shot. Baseball would kill for the ratings that football gets.

Baseball has 7 times more games a season than football does. When you're a commodity event (once a week versus several times a week) it's easier to have higher ratings.

I will say, though, football socialism (revenue sharing) is keeping the league solvent unlike many barely-hobbling NBA and MLB franchises, so for that I commend whichever Commish thought that up.

I agree with you about the commodity event, but it's scary how much football kills baseball. On Monday, Oct. 3rd, 2011, the Yankees-Tigers playoff game got a 2.1 TV rating; the regular season Colts-Bucs game got a 4.5 TV rating...without Peyton Manning playing. Hell, the NFL draft is an event that got a 5.47 on a Thursday night in April.

Chris Carter should be in the HOF.

Baseball is also an absolutely ******* awful sport. It's only fun to watch if you're there in person drinking and hanging out with people. Otherwise it's six hours of guys scratching their asses and strikes/balls. 9 innings, play until 3 outs, an out is 3 strikes or a billion foul balls, ... Do you see a problem/pattern here? In football you know "hey, this play sucked, but in 30s they'll run another one" and there's a bit more strategy to down/distance/point. Plus, even a "bad" play has some action to it where everybody is involved. For 90% of a baseball game you could have the entire infield and outfield sitting on the bench and just have the pitcher play.

I dont' understand people who watch the draft. I get the day-after coverage from NFL.com or similar sites.

We're in complete agreement on your last line.

We're in complete agreement on everything you just said. Nicely done.
