How does an "untipped" ties effect drape and wear?

I started to order some untipped ties in grenadine silk from Drakes but decided to wait to get some input on how they wear. I have never owned an untipped tie ( I assume that this is unlined??) and would like to know how they wear compared to stantard designs. Also, I noticed that several of the styles I liked are 7cm. Do you think this is too narrow? Is 8cm more of a long term width?

You can have an untipped tie that's lined. Most untipped grenadines are lined. 7 cm is narrow, but you can see gents back to the 50s and 60s wearing skinny ties. Just make sure the width of your tie is roughly proportional to the width of your jacket lapels.
