Conservative business dress. Probably should have done a TV fold.

True the threat of nuclear war was more present, although it may be catching up.
On the plus side, there were infinitely more purveyors of fine clothing than now,
especiallty Ivy /Trad wear. Fine campus shops abounded in places like Ithaca, NY
where I went to school, let alone New Haven, Cambridge and Princeton.

How welcoming of folks like me and @An Acute Style would those shops have been in 1958?

Yeah I was wondering this myself. In NYC or San Francisco life may have been OK. Other places? Not so much!

Not sure. As a white, non WASP teen, who was interested in Ivy clothes, partially because
my Dad, the son of poor immigrants, dressed very trad, I saw very few "persons of color"
at BB, Paul Stuart, Rogers Peet, J Press, let alone at the campus shops where I went to
college. On the other hand, Miles Davis was reputed to be a Chipp customer. And the late
Charlie Davidson,owner of the Andover shop,and an avid jazz fan, dressed many prominent
black musicians, like The Modern Jazz Quartet, Bobby Short, as well as the writer Ralph Ellison.

What’s the consensus on the jacket length? Feels like by modern standards, it’s a tad too long, but by classical standards, it’s fine. My gut tells me the length is acceptable and I shouldn’t risk shortening it, but I’m still of two minds. A very good tailor could make it work, but anything less than ‘very good’ and it could be disastrous.

I like the length, I wouldn't touch it.

Oxford jacket, patchwork madras pants, seersucker shirt and belt. White bucks again. They’re not suede, but they have a soft, smooth hand to them.
