I haven't quite gone full igent yet.

This has nothing to do with iGents.

Braces are traditional, practical, and comfortable. I have not met one person ever who had pants made up traditionally and to be worn with braces...and then went and said he preferred belts.

Braces are tried and true. Belts, by and large, do a ****** job and should be reserved only for the most casual of outfits.

Edit: Also of significance is the cut of the trouser. It should be cut to be worn with braces...but importantly cut to be worn at the natural waist line...certainly not at the hip-line. Trousers cut at the natural waist line and worn with braces not only will fit better and be more comfortable...but they will also drape better and look better.

I have a vintage tux (probably from the mid-1940s) with trousers made to be worn with braces. I wear it with braces and it's fine, but I wouldn't say I prefer it or that it's more comfortable. Given it's vintage, I'm pretty sure I'm "doing it right" according to your other criteria like rise and waistline but it's just not my thing. For black tie I don't mind, but I would never switch from belts to braces for daily wear.

Doing it right would be having the trousers cut bespoke.

There is no substitute for well made well fitting trousers that hang from the shoulders. Belts simply cannot compete in terms of comfort and fit.

Yeah, I don't think so. Bespoke might mean a few nominal and minute differences in measurements from OTR+tailoring but absolutely none of that is going to make me feel like having straps on my shoulders all day long.

It’s dangerous to generalize about whether someone will find suspenders more or less comfortable than a belt. Much will depend on body type (and personal preference and psychology).
