I saw a plaid vintage Pierre Cardin suit. It was surely for me...but not as it was 2 sizes too small.

It's less than half the scale of the suit stripe so I'd disagree; however, the type of cloth (oxford?) strikes me as too sport coat/casual against the worsted.
While the two suits were out last week, I did the opposite as well:
