Hey guys, I'm a newbie on this site, so please forgive me if I'm not following any conventions or anything like that.
I have a summer internship where I have to wear a suit 4-5 days a week. I know Joseph A Bank suits and fused suits are crap, but for $130 after tailoring, I couldn't resist and I picked up three over the course of the last year. My issue is that I wrinkle my suits pretty badly, and I decided to buy a Conair handheld garment steamer to unwrinkle the back of my suits.
I used the steamer for the first time yesterday on the one suit I've had for a year. In that year, I've probably gotten it dry cleaned 4-5 times (I know, I shouldn't do that, but I didn't realize until recently). While it worked really well, I started reading forum posts about people ruining their suits from steamers (granted most of these posts were from a couple years ago, as I've read the fusing technology has gotten better). So, I decided to inspect my suit. I found some bubbles UNDERNEATH the lapels--not a big deal, as the lapels hide them. However, it still worries me that I could've potentially damaged the suit.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Is it possible that by using the high heat setting on the steamer, the steam somehow went through the back of the suit and caused bubbling underneath the lapels?
2.) Is the bubbling more likely from past dry cleanings?
3.) When using a steamer in the future, I plan to put a towel or something in between the back of the jacket and the front to potentially absorb excess steam that gets through. Should I use high heat or low heat?
4.) Is it possible that the "bubbling" is actually just wrinkles from wearing it all day yesterday and not actually bubbles? I can take a picture if necessary.
