Has RLBL fallen out of favour with SF?

Sorry to take the discussion back a few pages, but has the chest/waist fit of the RLBL suits changed? I've picked up a few suits/SC's from B&S and all of the items with the Caruso tag have that "flesh tuxedo" fit. The latest item I picked up has this tag: The jacket with this tag has a much looser chest/waist fit. Just wondering if this is a change for the newer models?

I would usually take a 40L (I'm 6ft3) but there's a 40R RLBL suit going for a decent price and I'm wondering if I could get away with the sleeve length on the jacket. It's listed as 26" shoulder to cuff, but I've seen other 40Rs as 25 or 25.5". I know shortening jacket sleeve length is a fairly easy alteration to make, but what about letting out an inch? Would be that be doable with this suit, or should I just pass it over?

Pass on it. We're roughly the same size with me at 6'4" and also a 40L in RLBL; I tried to rationalize the same issue that you did. Your biggest issue won't be sleeve length, but rather jacket length. A 40L RLBL usually has a 32" BOC measurement, which means that it is one of the only suits that properly covers our ass. IIRC, the standard 40R with RLBL is 30.5" or 31", which obviously can't be altered.

Damn, I'd almost talked myself in to it! I imagine I'll be waiting a while to find a 40L in navy/dark grey on sale, or listed. Ah well.

You will be VERY hard pressed to find a staple RLBL that is 1) on sale and 2) in your size. I know, I look constantly to try to kop them. The best option that I found is in Europe, where the retail is lower than retail in the US, which can get down to about 300 euros if you play chicken with the sales, but almost never in 40L. Remember, it is one of the rarer sizes, thus stuck will be inherently lower than more common sizes.

You will be VERY hard pressed to find a staple RLBL that is 1) on sale and 2) in your size. I know, I look constantly to try to kop them. The best option that I found is in Europe, where the retail is lower than retail in the US, which can get down to about 300 euros if you play chicken with the sales, but almost never in 40L. Remember, it is one of the rarer sizes, thus stuck will be inherently lower than more common sizes.

Try 36R, I mean 38R is do-able, albeit still hard, but 36R is simply impossible.

I'm 6'1 and on my 40R NWT RLBL, the sleeves are just right/half an inch too long, the jacket length (or more specifically, the vent length/depth) is on the edge of too short. For what it's worth, I recently asked my tailor - the sainted William Field - what he thought the best-made OTR suit might be. "Oxford" he said, but noted that even so, he wasn't much of a fan of Oxford's jacket cut. Then I asked him - quality of construction aside - what he thought the best styled OTR suit might be in his eyes. "Ralph Lauren Black Label" he said without hesitation.

+1. I'm 6'1 and prefer a long from RLBL. I have some regulars I still wear but they're already verging on too short and I'm a few inches off of 6'3.
