Has clothing on Amazon shifted to a Long Tail pricing model?

For many years, Amazon has employed a Long Tail pricing strategy for its books, putting significant discounts on its best selling books while giving niche or more obscure books little to no discount. With this strategy, Amazon feels that a customer is likely to pay a premium from niche or more obscure books.

Over the past several months, it appears that on Amazon with several IZOD products, the "Fairy Tale" pink color was less frequently discounted compared to the more conservative colors which obviously sell more. This could be a sign that Amazon might be employing long tail pricing on certain clothing brands, where the more popular colors get the most discounts while niche colors are less frequently discounted. I highly doubt Fairy Tale was one of the best selling colors, since many men are uncomfortable wearing pink. I wonder if the average IZOD customer is really willing to pay a premium for niche colors.

Probably brands were this doesn't apply are select premium and luxury brands which have certain contractual pricing rules by the manufacturer that overrides Amazon's pricing algorithms, as well as items sold by third party sellers.
