Yeah, the email notifications might be a bit much if they are also putting notifications on the BLACK BAR OF DEATH that already shows on google pages.

I am not sure I like the notifications showing up on the top bar on other google pages...it has too much potential to be distracting. If I am working and I do a google search or pop in to google finance...I don't really need it to be lighting up and telling me that Bob has added me to his circle...at least on facebook, I have to actually sign on to facebook to start seeing notifications.

Why don't you just sign out while you are at work? You won't see the notifications if you are signed out.

This extension for Firefox blocks Google from tracking your identity on most Google pages that you have not explicitly logged into. In other words, you can log into Gmail and pull up a Google Search or Finance page in a different tab and the extension prevents Google from automatically using your Gmail credentials on those other tabs.

Still way too early to tell. However, the likes of AOL, Myspace and others have taught us Facebook won't last forever. It's only a matter of time before something new takes over.

Real potential here. They must have opened up invites today on a larger scale as many of my Facebook 'friends' were finally talking about it/asking what it was/etc

It reminds me of when I first got facebook. I think I was the first of my friends to get my college email address (and this was in spring/summer of 05 when a lot of colleges still didn't have networks) and I signed up for facebook as soon as I got it. Of course there wasn't much to do here besides fill in a profile and put in a picture (this was before albums or apps or the newsfeed or even the ability to "post" beyond the shared chalkboard style wall).

As my friends gradually decided what college to to go and got email addresses, they signed up for facebook and it was just an exercise in adding people we already knew. I don't know that anything really exciting happened until we started meeting *new* people and had the ability to add them on facebook (since they had also all spent a summer building a profile with people they knew).

This seems to be what is happening with +...everybody is stuffing people into circles as they see new friends get invited to join. I think I will try adding some new photos I have taken in the past couple weeks to it and playing with it more but I don't expect it to get interesting until it hits critical mass.

I think it will get interesting for me in a few months when my cyclocross racing season starts up and I can make use of Circles by putting biking people together. I often take a ton of photos of people (both teammates and people I don't even know since people love to see pictures of themselves racing) and until now, I have just been putting them up on picasa web albums and sharing the link on the racing circuit's designated post-race photo sharing page...I didn't really want to **** up my facebook and spam all of my non-cycling friends with hundreds of silly photos.
