i will say that if you've handled CPs vs. generic man, there is little to no comparison.

Agreed, name should be changed to generic garbage I think would be more fitting.

Occasionally, because I have nothing else to wear and I can't stand it as I feel so self-conscious about it, I agree with what you are saying, makes me a bit of a hypocrite, but considering I am broke and unemployed I have no other choice. I make this a rarity

No I don't buy a pair of sneakers for the sake of the barcode, I mentioned this as an example of the small details that CP have over this generic crap. I even mentioned the aesthetics involved as well, but thanks for deconstructing my statement and picking out parts to make them sound ridiculous.

It is ridiculous... having a barcode on the side isn't a detail adding to the value of the shoe. I mean, I love CPs, but their big selling points are their quality of construction and general understatedness... they're sleek and low profile. tgm has the same things in its favour: they're well made and understated. Whether there's a barcode or not is absolutely immaterial.

Back on the topic of the generic surplus line, I really like the wingtips, but have two concerns. First of all, would they get absolutely trashed from a Chicago winter (I try to wear snow boots when it's really bad, but usually use sneakers for when the snow isn't too ridiculous)? Also, would it be possible to rip out the insoles of these in order to put in my custom orthotics? And if, are these shoes so low-cut that they would be bad for someone with flat feet who needs at least a relatively good amount of support?

For 70 bucks, you can't really go wrong with generic surplus. You can't really buy a decent pair of shoes for that amount anymore. The white military hi top looks great. Agree?

I do admit the CP militarys do look better but are no longer available.

Once again: It's not a ******* barcode. For future reference, this is what a barcode looks like:

Then you don't use the word correctly, simpleton. For future reference, this is the definition of simpleton: One who is deficient in sense or intelligence; a silly or foolish person; a fool. Someone with tastes different from you isn't a fool--they are probably well-dressed, but not an idiot. As for Common Projects vs. Generic Man. Common Projects are nicer and that is reflected in the price. I wear Converse, though, so my opinion doesn't count.
