Gave the Twin Six bib its first spin this afternoon. I don’t think their cut is for me. The opening in front scoops down too low, which might not be an issue for a man in possession of a six-pack, but it essentially proffers my middle-aged paunch to the world. They also seem to be cut to accommodate the fella who feels overly constricted in the crotch area. That extra room allows things to move around, and I can see how I might end up with chafing. My other bibs lock everything in place, and I much prefer that approach. Finally, the straps are pretty narrow. That doesn’t bother me, but I do like the wider straps more.

The thermal jersey, however, is ****.

I have tried Pearl Izumi, Specialized, Castelli, Twin Six, and Performance bibs. I also have a Black Bibs road suit. I think the Pearl would be damned near perfect with a bit more substantial pad and wider straps, but they have seen me through a century without chafing. Castelli I only have a few rides on, but they seem similar to the Pearl, maybe a better pad. The next tier are the Specialized (RBX model) and the Black Bibs. Then the Twin Six and Performance, which have a similar loosey goosey fit in the crotch.

I have become a fan of all things Tegaderm.

I always *meant* to buy a bunch of tegaderm with end of year FSA money to have just in case after hearing other cyclists sing its praises...but just never got around to it.

Well, I picked up some nice road rash on my arm...and finally went out and bought a box of 4x4 sheets after changing big nasty gauze bandages a couple times. MAGIC!

Tegaderm has some good stuff but also Telfa is good stuff that comes in many sizes that won't stick to the wound. Here's a few examples:

I am a huge (unwilling) fan of the Tegaderm. Tried to make do with regular, supposedly non-sticking bandages after my low-speed off a while back, and I paid the painful price. I actually screamed. I have a nice, discolored patch of skin on my shin where the skin came off with the bandage...

Trick is to put a layer of vaseline gauze under the gauze. You can buy it prepackaged, but a cut up (clean) bed sheet saturated with vaseline (or Neosporin, but people worry about using it for too long) works too. Will keep the wound moist until your next change, but will peel off easy... All of the stuff that forms scabs/sticks flows through it and sets up on the gauze pad instead of your skin.

But now that I've got the tegaderm, I'm not going back! Will have to try the vaseline seepage tunnel trick on a fresh wound (this one had already slowed down)

Edit: here's my wound pic.
