G&G experts: What is the difference between the St. James and the St. James II? How versatile is vintage cherry? I fear that these shoes will look beautiful . . . sitting at the back of my closet.

I think the only difference is that the II has a little pointed edge on the heel cap design whereas the StJ is rounded.

Yes, the peak heel counter is the only difference.

The shipping is lightning fast for the UK. I ordered my EGs on Tuesday and they arrived at my office today. DHL was the carrier and I paid no duties. :slayer:

Congrats on the Shoes. I have been " stung" by DHL a couple of times - usually a week or two later...

Thanks.

Ah, I see about the custom fees. I thought they might hold the shoes hostage, so when they arrived DHL without a customs charge I was under the impression I'd lucked out.

Got my boots from the sale (Loake Kempton). The boots are gorgeous, shipping was fairly fast (5 days including weekend to Canada) and I am all in all very very pleased with my purchase.

Except for the magic DHL bill that is, which comes out to 32% of the purchase price (shipping included for some reason) + 10$ of fees from DHL. Welcome to Canada...

Always ask for Royal Mail when buying stuff from the UK if you don't want to get hit by customs fees

You're guaranteed to get hit with Fedex and DHL. Royal Mail rarely checks, but those private companies ALWAYS do

This is what I was able to gather after the fact. Live and learn I guess, luckily it wasn't on some actually expensive shoes.

Some retailers (Loro Piana UK) will only work with specific companies (Fedex, UPS etc).
I got PHUKED a couple of years ago on a pair of Fur Lined Boots, to the tune of hundreds = never again...
