Hey! I’m looking to buy my first shoe from a proper shoemaker, I’ve always flirted with Prada, Ferragamo, Gucci and the likes. But Vass is having a sale and I said why not?

I am thinking of getting the unique u last penny loader in grey museum calf Size 45.5. And I usually wear a 12.
My question for a guy who only ever owned black shoes, is it ok to start with grey? Is it a versatile color? I have never seen or heard of grey dress shoes, it’s all very new to me.

I don’t find gray to be that versatile when it comes to shoes. It’s a bit too distinct.

There’s nothing wrong with having a pair in your rotation, but I’d prefer to have a few more of the basics covered.

I agree ^^.

I am the opposite as you and only wear brown, but personally feel it is more versatile. However, i hear people like Kirby Allison talk about how they almost always wear black.

Agree with everyone else - grey isn't a good choice for a 1st high end shoe. Dark brown is probably the most versatile. Burgundy and Black thereafter.

Agree. If you don't like dark brown or black, try burgundy/oxblood for a more adventurous/rakish but still appropriate color. Grey isn't going to get you much wear.

Vass is much superior to Italian fashion houses. I wouldn't buy a Gucci or Ferragamo shoe with the exception of bit loafers.
