Fabric Wrinkling Around Coat's Waist

I was wondering if anyone could share some thoughts on what is happening around the waist of my coat?

Normally, I would have thought the wrinkling was due to the waist needing to be "let out" however that is definitely not the case here as I actually have room to have it taken in. The tailor I go to seemed kind of puzzled about it (note: I live in a small town without easy access to tailors in what might be described as "big "cities).

Is it possible that the coat should have a higher waist? Should it be taken in more?

I don't know, that waist looks a little snug to me.

The problem seems to be mainly on your right side, above the ticket pocket. Do you have a dropped right shoulder?

When I look at the picture it certainly seems that my right side is dropped. It has never been noticeable to me in the mirror. Perhaps suits never lie. If that is the case, I guess a decent tailor should be able to correct the suit, yes?

I still do not think the waist is too suppressed. To be honest whenever I feel the fabric in the area there seems to be room to add further suppression?

The picture must be inaccurate then, because I see a button that is really getting wrenched on.

What does the jacket look like if unbuttoned but not opened much?

I'll bet when you unbutton the jacket the button on the right side will fall at least half an inch to an inch lower than the buttonhole on the left front.

I actually have a similar problem and it's all because of my cursed shoulder being dropped like Tomasso mentioned. I've had a little bit of extra padding added to the one shoulder which alleviated the problem but I was very conscious and aware of the padding there and have stopped wearing the suit altogether.

Yup. If you are standing straight up in the photo your right shoulder is definitely dropped. Might try some folded paper towel or something just to see what a little padding would do for your right shoulder?

It also looks a wee bit snug at the waist to me.

In addition to the shoulder pad suggestion, you might consider just moving the button up (approximately the distance Despos mentioned) to eliminate the stress causing the wrinkles. This won't fix the drop shoulder but will alleviate the wrinkling, which was your initial concern. This is also a much easier (for your tailor) and cheaper (for you, if cost is even a concern) alteration than adding a pad.

A wee bit snug. It's pulling very badly and the right shoulder problem which is apparent, hasn't got much to with this problem. This issue of jackets pulling at the waist line is an interesting one. Personally I hate clothes that look too small for you and given the preference for slimmer fitting suits this is an ever present hazard in the age of the donut. Particularly if you buy a suit at the age of 27 and expect your body shape will be unchanged in ten years time. For the ultra fit maybe, for the rest of us? I've bought a few accessories at Vacca's, it's lovely stuff, but I do have a little scepticism about whether some of the 30 year olds I see wearing their suits will still be wearing them in 2020.

Yes it does. More than the girth measure.

to me it looks too full in the chest, too wide at the shoulders (just a hair), and too tight at the waist.

I cant tell if your shoulder is dropped, or if you are just leaning a weird way.

Fixing the shoulder based on the pic and without having garment and wearer here in front of me is very unlikely to fix his pulling problem without adjusting the girth measure. Think otherwise if you wish.
