I emailed Lorenzo and confirmed I’m in.

Does anyone know why these 2 pairs of bourdon are so different in colour?

Which colour are we likely to get?

and would you be annoyed if you received a pair with mismatched shades at the toe cap?

I think the second photo is in direct sunlight. Yes I would be annoyed with a mismatched toe cap.

Has this model ever been made plain toe? No cap = no chance of mismatch

I think it's an option you can add, so you never mistake the left from the right...

Aren't there makers that do a faux toe cap, meaning it's one piece of leather for the vamp with stitching across the toe to make it look like a cap?

Decided that the light Bourbon shell isn't for me, as I need the colour to be consistent across the boots.

Is anyone keen on the below makeup - pic for reference:
  • Upper: Smooth Dark Cognac shell
  • Shaft: Hatch grain dark cognac shell
  • Eyelets: 4 + 4
  • Welt: 270 flat
  • Sole: Double Leather with toe plates
  • Last: 74945

Get it made in Black Shell I suggest .. there is no other way to be ? sure that left and right pairs would be consistent in color.

As with all shell, there is the potential to have inconsistent shades right out of the box. You can run into that with any color of shell, but that's part of the appeal. It will look different under certain light and angles. Further, just because you get perfect consistency out of the box, it's not to say that it will patinate uniformly and some panels may darken and/or lighten differently.

I think a lot of the allure of shell cordovan is this process of watching it evolve. It's not for everyone and you may be better off going with calf leather if you want perfect consistency.

However, based on all of the examples I've seen, it appears that the cordovan that Solegarb sources for EB is fairly consistent in coloring.

@George Red interested in the below Balway makeup? We have 3 confirmed so far.

  • Upper: Smooth Bourbon Shell
  • Shaft: Hatch Grain Bourbon Shell
  • Eyelets: 9 small antique brass eyelets
  • Welt: 360 flat with natural edge dressing
  • Sole:Double Leather and Toe taps
  • Last: 74945
  • Final Price: $1095 + $55

I’d be open to jumping in on this. Is the GMTO still live/open to new folks joining?

Edit- I prefer having some speedhooks, but it looks like that change has been made.
