If you're alright with cotton, there's a source you should consider.

One of the top of the line re-enactment suppliers does high-quality repros of WWII khakis and herringbone twill trousers (the same pants RRL and RMC will charge you $300 for), for $60 each. They run up to size 50W.

Here are a few models: Army khakis, Marine khakis, herringbone twills (currently sold out), wool slacks (these cost $100).

Yeah I tried out their sizing tool and it put me into pretty slim trousers as their “regular” fit (7.1” hem opening).

I suspect they use the 'A' cut for all the promo shots

The 'B' cut is still slim but not skinny and that's the one I order

I suspect 'C' cut might suit the larger gentleman

The strange thing in Britain is that you can get very well cut RTW trousers from certain heritage brands… but everything else fits like the above.

You could try the 'Dww' cut, useful if you need to hide a couple of baguettes from the Gestapo ?

I think at the point where I can make out both ass cheeks and the leg opening is smaller than the opening on your boots, it might be time to size up.

Chinos actually (but they do sell proper wool trousers if that's your thing). I suppose if you don't like 1960s style cuts you might be a bit disappointed.
