What's your guys' experience with unlined EG loafers - are they more forgiving in the width (as the foot will only stretch one layer of leather), or is it the same is lined shoes (as they are crafted on the same lasts after all)? I have seen both arguments, but not sure what to expect as I don't have any yet.

I've been on a bit of a journey with EG sizing and lasts and would like to tap this group's feedback.

184 last in F (wide) width fits me great. I wear a 9UK/9.5 US.
202 last in E (standard) fitting also fits pretty good but I have it in 9.5 UK/10 US (a half size larger). I sort of think a 9UK in F width would work too but I haven't tried it.
82 last in E (standard) is snug for me but tolerable if I go to 9.5 UK.
606 last in E (standard) fitting is too snug for me, even when I go to the 9.5 UK instead of the 9 UK.

Question 1: The EG F lasts seem to be the best option for me. Which stockists tend to carry these sizes? I only see Borghini and Frans Boone tend to do this.

Question 2: Should I be considering any EG lasts in standard (E) width? Would the 64 last for example, be wide enough for me? Any thoughts on the 303 last?

Do you go wide bc of ball width or instep? In my experience over their lasts, sizing is consistent. I.e. if UK9 F width works, it should most likely work across all their other lasts

I wear your same size (9UK F) for all models I have, consistently across 184, 202 and 303. Other than the retailers you mentioned, the EG stores in London and Paris sometimes have F width models available. And if you see something on their website they offer as a stock model, there's no fee to have it made to order in your preferred width.

The seem to be a bit more forgiving, but mostly just more comfortable from a structure standpoint. I don't size differently between the two fwiw, but if you have just the slightest discomfort in a lined shoe the unlined may alleviate that

Similar here. Assuming you're looking at the same model lined vs unlined, then the unlined is certainly more comfortable and lighter - they are lovely to wear.

I dont size differently, but I probably could size down 1/2 in an unlined version if, for example, a used pair came up on eBay or SF.

I've got a number of Belgravias, and my unlined pair are certainly a favourite.

Thinking about it, there may be a greater difference in lined vs unlined in a suede loafer vs leather?

Unlined ones may be more comfortable initially, but they will be more prone to sweat stains and will more easily lose the shape.

I prefer unlined loafers though it is not a strong preference and prior to me dipping my toes into the EG pond, all of my experience has been with Alden & CJ shells. With EG, I have a suede and a grained leather pair and while I like both, I will agree that they have lost some of their shape rather quickly (hasn’t noticeably happened yet with any of my unlined shells). Fortunately for me my feet don’t seem to sweat much and I like unlined because I go sock less. With socks, the difference (IMO) is minor.

exactly, it seems that thus there is no big comfort advantage, but the shoes ruins more quickly. I understand an overall shift to casual shoes, but why then unlined on top of that?
