Take that road with caution, friend. One never returns afterward.

The responses in this thread have really surprised me. The socks look completely out of place.
Everything is fine/good, but the socks just don't fit.

First tell us the occasion. Is this for work?

Change tie, socks, and shoes. You didn't show us the belt.

Black shoes with dark-colored socks

I like that.

The tie has to move about one metre back though.

I think its okay, but its not really adding a lot, and is perhaps unnecessary.

The burgundy shoes are interesting enough on their own for the bottom of your outfit, imho.

If this is for work I might tone down the look with either brown shoes (suede would look good)/green socks or burgundy shoes/blue socks. If this is a social event then go for it minus the tie which should be cut up and buried, then forgotten.

I am curious about two things. First, why no pocket square? It seems a gentleman comfortable with burgundy shoes would not feel strange wearing a pocket square too.

Second, (and feel free to ignore this but it is a sincere question) why are you getting into your appearance AFTER your relationship soured? Why not during?

Waist up is bright colors. Waist down is darker colors.

Too many colors.

But it looks good overall.

I do have to wear a suit and tie everyday for work - but I had to go out in the evening so I took some liberties.

Much to peoples disappointment the tie suffered a painless death.. but gone she is.

Pocket square? I just purchased a few today as the sales in Paris are on but I have no practical idea on how to use them I need to do some research.

Why no style before? I was married, in the US, big house, settled worked in the yard a lot after work, building a 1000 sq ft patio didnt need to dress up for work etc etc different lifestyle. Now being in 30s new city single it is quite intimidating.. figured appearance was a good place to start.

Sincere thanks to all on the feedback - back to work tomorrow I shall be a bit more muted.

I would say less arrogant and more like trying too hard to gain attention. You might as well wear a clown nose while you're at it.

I think you are overthinking the whole thing - hardly anybody will take notice whether your sleeve buttons are open or closed...
