I have a blog, which i have tried to keep on and off. I think I've given up on the paper ones for fear of it being read, resorting in turn to the anonimity in the crowd that is the blogosphere.

Everyone has a secret life to one degree or another ... but is there really anything to fear? Were your journal contents made known to friends and/or family ... would it really knock their socks off? Unless one has committed a crime for which there is no statute of limitations ... what is there to fear but the truth?

In the middle 90s, I inherited the journals (hand written) of a long time friend. Several biographies have been written about this person ... but they don't come close to revealing the man made known via his private writings. My agreement with said friend is that fifteen years after his death, I should let these journals go public via one of several carefully chosen biographers.

The 15 year milestone is coming up ... but several family members have asked that I wait longer. It's a bit of a dilemma. They writings aren't that racy ... but they reveal a lot about his character and thought processes. I'm not sure why the desire on the part of the family to continue waiting.

Ultimately I think I'll adhere to the request of the deceased ... not the family.
