Dicaprio "The Departed" style question

I was wondering if someone familiar with the movie could help me with this? First off its a good movie of course , and i think it has some pretty cool streetwear early winter type stuff in it. One item in particular is worn by Leonardo several times throughout the picture. It's kinda like a jacket but pretty thin, looks like a black jean jacket at first glance. However it kinda wears and hangs pretty flimsy at the bottom and the collar hangs pretty low amd doesnt look very rigid at all , makin me think its not made out of exclusively denim. I think its just basically some kinda of outerwear piece in between a jacket and a shirt.. I dunno, hope somebody knows something about this cause i think it looks pretty cool with some jeans and red wings or whatever. maybe throw a hoodie on underneath. Any feedback appreciated...

your right they definately didnt splurge on jeans in that movie and dont think i didnt notice i kept sayin wtf? I thought alot of stuff they wore would look awesome with some high end denim. As to the pics of the particular jacket , no thats definately not the one im speakin of. Thanx for the reply. I must admit alot of the leather jackets, pullovers, and various stuff the guys wear in the movie run together. However i do believe that the one im talkin bout is a much darker color and i think the hardware on the shirt or jacket is silver.. nah im definately sure that it had a more denim lookin construction and appearance as well as silver buttons on the back and front. it really looks like a very lightweight loose wanna be black denim jacket with silver hardware...

I noticed the jeans sucked too, but I think that was the point - DiCaprio and Damon's characters were not the type of dudes who would rock fancy jeans.

so i dunno maybe its just a black levis jean jacket. I wonder how that would play around here in the denim on denim debate. black jacket on raw jeans ? hmmmm....

It's called "authenticity," and it's what made the movie so great (in many ways), IMO. Irish gangsters and Boston cops are probably some of the worst dressed people you will ever see (I know, I used to live there), if anything I thought the suits they had Damon in were too nice, and fit too well. The Sheen and Baldwin characters looked perfectly authentic as well. If only the real thugs in Boston were as cool as Jack. . .

what everybody said about authenticity. the movie would look fake if everybody was wearing premium denim.

I know it's not what you're asking about, but dicaprio's looks like a pretty standard cotton zip jacket--I think I've seen that style called a mechanic's jacket. It's a gap standard--in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a geuine gap piece.

Check to it.

Carhartt makes similar styles, but that looks casual and washed, and carhartt's are much stiffer and (generally) bigger.

Theres alot of cool items in that movie i think. Alot of it just seems to fly under the radar. I really liked the leather jackets in the movie as well. I guess imma have to look into the black jean jacket and hoodie thing but i really am wondering about the black shirt Leo is wearing in the scene with him, dignam, and queenan arguing by the river. I think its such a cool kinda throw on item for a fall day never seen anything like it so sublime lol...
