Water is often preferable, but not necessarily available at the bar unless you want to piss off the bartender.

If it were decaf, iced tea would have a lot of panache in the summer.

Not being worried about the coolness, I order Diet Coke.

In distant lads it is usually "Cola light." When unavailable I will drink a Coke or a water if all they have is Pepsi.

Coke with lime. Looks like a cuba libre and, if you're really that insecure, you can claim that it is. I actually like Coke with lemon/lime and order it at lunch when I can't find Pepsi Twist.

Even as a ten-year old I was embarrassed to order one and preferred to call it a 'Dick Tracy'. Another (similar) choice is a Roy Rogers.

Seriously, order a soda, fruit juice, seltzer w/ lime, or non-alcoholic beer.
