Does a classic 3 button low cut black satin tuxedo vest with a full back under $100 exist or am I searching for Big Foot, the Lochness Monster, and the Golden Unicorn at the same time?

The closest I have seen is Brooks Brothers 3 button backless vest, but it costs a fortune for something so small and minor. The RLBL tux only cost $550 so spending $100+ on a vest just seems stupid to me.

The other option is a cummerbund but I don't like them so it's my last option.

That says the vest is "backless."

In any case, I don't know why anyone would insist on a formal vest with a full back. Fine if you happen across one that you like but I don't see the reason for making it a sticking point.

Yeah seems white to me too. I went to a couple stores today locally and they only sell 5-6 button vests. I had them digging around.

I even asked one woman for a 3 button vest in black satin and she came back with a shiny gold 6 button vest??

Oh well **** the rules, I'm going sans cummerbund and vest. Dressing up shouldn't be this much trouble.

Yo gents!

I'm from Australia....at the current time I am also looking for a low cut formal Black Tie Classic ( U-shaped cut out ) black colored no-frill's no lapel WAISTCOAT/VEST right here in Australia!

And yes, I must say it does seem as if one is looking for the Loch Ness monster or the cure for cancer, or the search for the perfect woman.

I'll tell you my experience.

I had to ring up not one, not two, not even 10, but twenty five different formal wear stores and yet none of them stock this rare type of vest/waistcoat.

All of them seem to be going with the flow of supplying only those groteque high-cut button all the way to your damned collarbone type 6 button/7 button brocade vests with gaudy patterns suited only to pretend formalwear - such as those won by HOllywood golden boys on the redcarpet with their thin ties and their craveats.

So I search more on the web and ring around some more.......Eventually I found one store that did sell the holy grail and it ain't a formal wear hire store, but an old fashion, fuddy duddy store of a bygone era, specialising only in be-spoke tailoring and whose owner has a french name and whose store is situated in the Snob floor ( think "OLD WORLD" red carpeted floors, Tiffany's jewellers and woodgrain panelling and gold trimming everywhere ) of a city shopping centre. And they do not have a website - not surprising.

GUess, what, " Yes sir, we have the item that fits your description )".

Price? "They are $250, sir", "no sorry we don't do discounts, $250 take it or leave it. Specially designed by our designer-owner, .... do you want us to reserve this exclusive garment in your name?".

There you go $250 Australian for a classic 2 button, lapel-less, low cut U-shaped BLACK-coloured vest/waistcoat which in your USD money is still freakin' $200 !

That's when those ordinary choke-to-your neck 6-to-7 button vests offered by formal hiring stores are going for $100 AUD or $80 your money. - and those will definitely hide your beautiful Marcella shirt and 4 oynx studs.

What's the point I say to myself? And I hate cummberbund,....eventually I gave up and will now decide to head into my event sans cummerbund and sans vest as well.

Brooks Brother is now selling low cut tuxedo vests.

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatP...=&sectionsize=

I was looking for an inexpensive one last year and it was impossible. I finally settled on a cummerbund. I wish BB was selling this item this time last year. It's one of the cheaper ones I've seen at $175, even though it still strikes me as too expensive. I am glad that this golden unicorn can now be purchased somewhere at least ...

What are the thoughts on the material? If the jacket has grosgrain lapels, should the vest be wool or all satin? Is the wool of the vest supposed to match the wool of the jacket? The one from finetuxedo.com comes with satin lapels, so is that considered not to match the grosgrain ones of the jacket?
