About 15 years ago I was a pilot in the Navy stationed at NAS Miramar, and I had my first bespoke suits made by a tailor in La Jolla, CA. I think he was Korean, and he had formerly worked for Oxxford. A local exotic car salesman had a dealership in La Jolla and fronted this guy some money to set up a bespoke tailoring shop. I think his real name was "Mark Lath", but he called himself "Mark L. Montana". The name of the shop was "Nicholas of La Jolla".
He made several suits and coats for me, and they were by far the best I've ever owned. I'm still wearing them. Since then I've had suits made everywhere from WW Chan in Hong Kong to Anderson and Sheppard on Savile Row, but none of them have rivaled Mark's work in terms of fit and quality.
The shop closed a few years later, and I've never been able to track him down. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone here has a lead as to Mark's whereabouts I'd greatly appreciate any info.
