Well, Martinez people here say will charge you $80 (and do a phenomenal job), and the folks at Spoon told me they're too busy to do it now that they've rebounded post-pandemic, which of the people mentioned here leaves ... Andreas Gorges, among a few others. This thread isn't that long, though a tad dated. The alterationist I usually go to for easy stuff is in San Jose so not useful to you.

Just found out the alteration tailor I visit locally (I moved and she was just 5 minutes away, too) will be retiring by 7/15 and closing shop. She’s always been accommodating and warm, and the job has always been on point. I need simple things done like take in waist or shorten inseam. To that end, any suggestions for alteration tailors in the East Bay? I usually travel from Cupertino to SF.

I use Central Tailoring and Alterations on Castro in Mountain View. Ali is fast and efficient and will tell you when something can't be altered, shouldn't be altered or doesn't need to be altered. He is a third generation tailor from Turkey and English is not his first language.

I'm rehashing this for the 1000th time--what are some spots that folks here enjoyed the results when altering pants? Jackets? I have stuff from Drakes to 18 East looking to get tailored, and I'm now itching to get this all done as the clothes have been sitting for months.

I can go from Cupertino to SF (Golden Gate Park area to the Presidio).

Perhaps I'll give Central Tailoring and Alterations in Mountain View a look. Is the place friendly during weekends? @ppk

Is Advanced European Tailor still the same owner? Always heard great things from shoppers of NMWA and Eidos during the heyday. I'm just not familiar with the Berkeley area. Are they also accommodating during the weekends or it gets pretty busy?

I'm relatively new to the Berkeley area so can't speak to history, but seems to be well-established. I've had fantastic results with them. They turn around most things in about a week's time. I believe they are closed on weekends, though.

Yup. He's open on weekends, but can be very busy. He's closed on Mondays.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
