Very hard to come across;
- Burberry no longer make in England
- When they did the majority of their production was poly/cotton blend rather than pure cotton
- 38 Long is a pretty rare size
To my eyes, this also has the advantage of a more subdued check lining, rather than the obvious house 'Nova' check.
For those who've not worn one before, this is a very versatile and truly stormproof garment. I've taken lots of photos so you can see all the details, but these were originally designed for officers in the trenches in World War I. Those little brass d-rings on the belt are designed to attach grenades to (or at least that's what my grandfather did) and it has epaulets for your rank insignia.
It also has great waterproofing - the turn-up collar with the hooks on the neckline and the adjustable fastener on the underside of the collar, the full box pleat to the rear, the double breasted fastening, etc etc...
Just before Burberry stopped making these in the UK they retailed for a little over £800. It's more than that now, for a cheaper product. It's heirloom quality and should last a lifetime if cared for.
This one is in good condition - I can't spot any marks though it's been in my closet unworn for a year so may benefit from a clean. All the leather-covered buckles are soft and supple. No rips / tears.
