Hi all, I'm getting married in July; it's going to be a relaxed affair but i'm having trouble deciding on my shoes.

I am having a made to measure suit from Moss in a mid blue, with the ushers in a slightly darker blue.

I am having a coral Liberty print tie, grey waistcoat, brown buttons and was going to have brown shoes, but the ushers want brown buttons/shoes also, so I was thinking of going blue to distinguish me from everyone else.

Can i get away with blue shoes like the following or is iti too much - will it date horribly?!

Any help greatly appreciated!!

I too am wearing a blue suit and blue shoes for my wedding. It's a totally acceptable look, within some bounds.

Even though blue, the shoes should still be sufficiently formal to stand up to both your outfit and the occasion. Both examples you've shown are pretty casual. The first example, as a blucher, is the worse offender. The second is at least a balmoral, but the contrast stitching, white laces, and natural finish sole edge make it a very casual shoe.

Try to find a balmoral (closed-laced) shoe. Cap toe is more formal than plain toe is more formal than wingtip, generally. I don't have any examples off the top of my head that aren't significantly more expensive than what you have pictured here, but I'll try to find some and post.

I regularly wear dark navy shoes on formal occasions.Navy suit with dark navy shoes goes well. But the pictures of shoes that you have posted are casual shoes. And I don't think they would be appropriate for weeding. Try to find a bit more formal and darker pair.

Many thanks for your help gents - I don't really wear suits so the advise is much appreciated.

I like the point about closed lace - that does look a lot better than the wing. i was hoping the brown sole would tie in with the buttons and maybe not look too formal (the wedding is in a marquee in a meadow/flower garden) but it sounds like it is too casual - i guess the stitching doesn't help!

colour wise the suit is nearer the brogue rather than the image i grabbed for the suit; should i still go quite dark? I was a bit worried about them looking black and therefore like i'm dressed for an office...

No, and most certainly not those blue shoes.

I would advise against it and I'm normally open to 'stepping out' kind of clothing. Wear some dark brown shoes for everyone's sake please.

As a side note, I walked by a guy today wearing a blue shirt, navy tie, navy pants and navy socks. I don't know what color his shoes were as I had to look away. He looked like a smurf.
