I think the top line of this frame is a little flatter than yours but the opacity of frame (I have this finish) softens the lines a little. Color does a lot to embolden or soften the look.

I thought it was 1.74 for plastic (higher for glass which seems to be hard to get in the US) BTW, there is very little info on the internet as to who makes a good 1.74 lens. I ended up going with Zeiss. (Hoya, Nikon, Seiko etc all have their own versions and different coatings) Every eyeglass place I've been to says all the lens are the same.. and then when I talk to a respected eye doctor I know he said go with Zeiss which is what he uses .. .:p

Yes, most lens companies of that caliber are all neck and neck in terms of quality, clarity and coatings. Eye care practitioners get free lenses all the time from labs and manufactures. He may be wearing Zeiss now but a year from now he may be wearing the best Nikon lenses. Just food for thought...

One thing though that people seemed to agree on was that the quality of coatings varied quite a bit and alot of these 1.74 lenses came with specific factory coatings for AR/scratch and UV.. some of which will be better than others. Not sure if there's any truth to this... but my previous pair which were supposed to be high index came with some coatings that were really bad, had to recoat several times. Never happened to me before on previous pairs of glasses.

SOMEONE PLEASE!!!

Find a closeup picture of the glasses Richard Burton wore in the movie "Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf"

Saw a film clip this morning in the wake of Elizabeth Taylor's death of him/glasses in the movie and thought they were GREAT.

There are many factors. There are several different coatings from each company. They range from regular, to multicoat, to anti-fog, and so on. Another huge factor is the environment and how you take care of the lenses. Hot places and humid places can craze coatings. As well, if you perspire a lot, it can contribute to crazing the coatings.

Glass lenses are hard to get because it does not pass the drop ball test. But can get them in Canada

I think all 1.74 lenses are pretty similiar but its ironic that your eye doctor would select Zeiss since its known for glass.

Even in Canada nobody wants to dispense it. There is too much liability if it shatters. Also, labs hate using glass now because most wheels on edgers aren't even made for glass anymore.

I was just at the Vision Expo East trade show in New York and haven't heard of a 1.76, nor was there anything at the show and it is an international show. Maybe it is available but definitely not in North America.
