I'm going into a corporate office in 2 weeks. Computer Industry/Software Engineer. Business casual. Tie and coat optional, but I want to.
I bought a silk knit dotted tie and wool tie from the Tie Bar both 2 inches. I have a skinny tie bar ~1 inch.
I have johnston and murphy wingtips. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075H8QFW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Budget ~$300-400 for 2-piece.
First suit.
Can't decide between charcoal gray and dark navy.
Can't decide between J Crew or Men's Wearhouse.

Any suggestions if I should get from somewhere else?

In the Los Angeles, CA area.
You cant go wrong with either color but my pick would be charcoal. If your budget is tops 400 you probably can't get Jcrew, as they run about 650 for the wool ones. Your best bet might be JCrew factory Thomson suiting. The quality is not quite as good as Ludlow but for the money it's considered good value.

Probably an easy fix, but I don't like how you can't see your shirt sleeves in the pictures you post.

Folks, how do you list your B&S listings in your posts (e.g. as Ich_Dien has in the one right above mine)?
In the upper right corner of the page you can see your user name. Mouse over that and click on "EDIT MY SIGNATURE" There are three drop downs at the bottom of your page. You're supposed to be able to link things there.

I'm going to pick up just the italian worsted wool charcoal suit pants. I'll save the jacket for another time.

So you reccomend I just get the sleeves shortened and then I will have a well fitting jacket? Thanks

Suit with OCBD and satin tie for scientific research presentations/symposiums. Yay or nay?

Are you a PI? What field are you in? Unless you are in medicine, no. Way too formal. It will alienate your colleagues.

Not a PI, but an undergrad researcher (author on the poster) in the School of Medicine's Dept. of Biomedical Sciences

Will be presented at the University-wide Undergraduate research presentation/symposium on a weekday. Undergrads stand in front of the poster and look pretty and answer questions when asked, while other students and faculty members walk around. Not a competitive environment

Didn't want to embed as I posted this pic already but this look is what I was thinking of wearing (OCBD shirt, just not buttoned down in the pic)

@WeekndOrNah I would say, go with khakis and a dress shirt and no tie. You will probably still be the best dressed in the room. Biologists pride themselves in being able to wear whatever they want. Usually the sloppiest dresser is the smartest guy in the room.

I'd wear that. You're at your school among colleagues and friends. No harm looking sharp. No one is going to chastise you for being overdressed.

Hey guys. I just got a pair of Caruso for Spurr pants in a black sort of donegal tweed. I can't find a picture of them, but they're quite a bit similar in pattern to this hat:

My question is, what sort of jacket might you pair this with? Some charcoal pattern? Maybe a navy? I have no idea really. Just looking for some guidance.

Thanks!
