Thing is my brothers and brother in law will use suits with bow ties each a different color and of course I want to stand out with the midnight blue tux jacket

And a midnight blue dinner jacket is somehow insufficient, so you feel as though a red bow tie is warranted as well?

It's called "black tie" for very good reason. Years from now when looking at photos, you'd be grateful if younger you stuck with the most classic look possible.

I prefer a slim navy blazer without *gold* buttons and think the buttons are only appropriate for Thurston Howell III or maybe even the Skipper on a dress up day. Am I crazy?

You're entitled to your opinion in this matter, so I suppose your not crazy. (I'll assume that your remark about Thurston Howell III and the Skipper was a bit of hyperbole, much like someone who doesn't care for bow ties claiming that they're only appropriate on PeeWee Herman.)

Personally, I have no problem with gold/brass buttons on my navy blazers. As a less common alternative, silver/pewter buttons have their place, as well.

If no metal buttons, it seems to me it's basically a navy sport coat, and not a blazer. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) The buttons being one of the key elements which makes a blazer, a blazer.

Is it possible to get away with wearing Navy Wholecuts to work/weddings? or is it just too much of a casual colour? Navy suit and Navy shoes sounds fine in theory tome but i've never seen anyone else wear them. Then again i've never seen anyone in my town wear such a thing casually either.

Here's a twist. Would it be better with a navy suit? Decisions decisions..

Depends on the office and depends on the wedding.

Hey guys,

Need some new shirts (at the moment i have mostly button downs), what's a versatile collar to wear, given that I will rarely--if ever--be wearing suits, only odd jackets and trousers etc.

I'm thinking of ordering five or so off Kamakura. This, along with about 6 oxford cloth button downs and I should be right to start with, for a business casual work envrionment? Thank you :)
