I'm thinking about buying this cheap thrift coat and cutting the lapel. (Left side of photo to right side of photo.) What do you people think about this? It would be horrible one? Or it could be mediocre one that a sensible man would think about wearing?

P.S It's a sad thing that +J do not have any topcoat.

I think it would be fairly difficult, unless you are an accomplished sewer. I'd leave it as is, or wait for another coat you enjoy better.

Anybody got any pictures of Alden's Straight and Perf Tip Bals? The ones on their website are awful. Just not the black.

Quick, I have yom kippur services in an hour.
White or blue shirt?
navy w/ white horizontal stripe knit tie, or blue and silver repp tie?
green linen or grey flannel pants?
DB blazer (black), SB blazer (grey, navy, green), or none?
they will be worn with my black Bally oxfords which I spent an hour polishing to perfection.

Isn't Yom Kippur supposed to be pretty conservative? So a green blazer would really make you stick out.

First time poster and happy to be on-board with you all. I was curious, is there a thread dedicated simply to matching shoe color to an outfit? Thanks!

There have been random threads on the topic, but nothing exhaustive. Forum consensus, to the extent such a thing exists, is probably that some shade of brown is often the better choice than black. You might browse the What Are You Wearing Now thread for some examples.

I've read a lot about grey flannel suits or at the very least grey flannel trousers being essential to a wardrobe. However, I can't quite figure out what makes a suit flannel and not the more commonly understood "flannelette" which most people call flannel. And while I'm asking, what are some examples of NON-flannel suits for comparison sake.
