PBJ is actually cheaper and uses 14.5oz really slubby denim for nearly all of their models, they have a unique fit (sometimes criticized), and models like the 007, 010, and 011. Sugarcane uses denim with sugarcane fibers woven in and cotton from Zimbabwe and Texas, and one of the interesting details are their patches, which range from regular leather to snakeskin, hair-on-horsehide, and buffalo. And then there's also, Somet, SDA, Eternal, Warehouse, etc.

1. I'm more than aware of everything you posted. This ain't my first rodeo.

Also I was sort of kidding about the 99%. I thought it was obvious, though apparently not...

My only point was that of all the brands discussed here for just normal, medium weight, high quality, selvage, slim fit, raw denim below $300 AW is imo hands down the best.

Personally I don't see any Ande Whall models that would fit how i like so its not worth the money to me. But the details make it worth the money if there is a model that fits you well.

what everyone is trying to say to the marsupials who say that ande whall is better than 99% of the high-end exclusive japanese brands is this:

the price has been increased to the same ballpark as the top japanese brands. it will have a lot more competition with other companies that produce similar to better quality jeans with different characteristics.

sure you can say that you can't rate one top company better than the other. but the truth of the matter is that ande whall was never competing with these top companies before but with the price hike its inevitable now.

as for me, i'll pay the little extra and get the flat heads, samurais, somets, iron hearts, etc. and leave the linen patch and steel rivets behind.

for those who say i have a biased opinion, i actually own a pair of the grifters so i know what the quality of ande whall is like.

I measured my top thigh and it came out to 22 inches, the grifters top thigh is at 11.4. Would that be cutting it too close?

Grifters are meant to be tight in the thighs, mine were extremely so, and it was awesome. ps it will stretch

He had sanforized grifters. So did I, I had crazy tight thighs. I sized up this run.

and by sized up, I mean my waist is a bit of an inbetween 30 and 31.

But back to the "perceived quality downgrade"...what downgrade are we talking about here? He is obviously using what he considers to be better denim, as many of the other jean shops using denim from Okayama are charging the same price or more. He is still doing these all by hand and is putting a lot of his own personal touches to the jeans....just curious thats all. I myself was waiting for these jeans for some time. I didn't mind the price hike, as I felt it was justified, but for me the issue, the deciding factor is as small as using an uglier patch lol.

I was referring specifically to the patch.

Ande Whall is one of my favorite jeans. I've SZ-SI and SZ-BK. For the patch, although I prefer leather patch, this patch is still OK to me and I'd buy it soon.
