As much as I still like AE, they don’t offer a lot of options in dress oxfords or loafers for folks with high insteps. Most of their classic dress oxfords are on the 5 last (e.g. PA, 5A, Strand, McAlister), which is a real challenge for folks with high insteps. I had to choose between an E with otherwise good fit but terrible looking closure and a EE, which looks better but loose in the heel.

They offered up the 201, which is a huge help, but largely limited it to the Indy line, which it seems about to be abandoned.

The 4 last worked on loafers for us high instep folks but it seems to have been largely abandoned. (My truffle shell McGraw(?) loafers found for me by the lady in Jeffersonville years ago remains one of my best finds from the abyss.)

So for dress oxfords and loafers I have moved on to other pastures. European makers (for some reason) seem to offer more for folks with higher cones, particularly Bonafe and C&J.

I would suggest folks struggling to find a closed fit in an oxford, and/or a loafer that doesn’t feel like a medieval torture device, to not give up but instead to explore other brands.

BTW, my best fitting AE shoe of all time is an E width Macneil on the 7 last. So of course they abandoned it. . Thank goodness Ashley let us use it in the suede TS. My TS snuff Macs are perfect.

How do you feel about the Plymouth? I for one really like a simple Monk.

+1 on single monks; they're marginally more dressy but still good for casual and I prefer the understated design with less hardware.

I really like my TS 20.1 Plymouths. They're a lot like the old Warwicks, but those were prone to some odd wrinkling around the throat that AE seems to have fixed. Mine are quite generous in my usual 9.5E size and I find I need to use the tightest buckle position. But I'm not complaining.

I wish AE would make them in oxblood, and would love to see them in the next shell trunk show—it would be a nice gift for those of us that couldn't fit into the Norwich that only Neo-ists could squeeze into :- )

That explains it. So far, I've been able get a passable fit with a pair of Graysons (7 last). But, the Patriots in 606 are just a bit too tight on my insteps.

I guess my loss is someone's gain (just got around to listing the pair of black shell Patriots).

Some inspiration. I wore mine with my brown shell Patriots for the TS I went to in Cali.

In addition to burgundy, Loden, Walnut, white/sand, and black I also wear with brown... might even pair with navy.

My Daddy had very few materialistic things in his life that he loved. These cheap snake skin boots and a Gibson guitar filled that bucket. I miss him, so I'm wearing his favorite shoes.

I have never purchased preowned shoes and I have never used eBay, but today I bought a pair of pre-owned AE's on eBay. I hope they don't have too much foot funk in them. I'm excited.
