Last comment I will make on the subject. In addition to many vintage shoes I've done some new shoes because the edge they come with is no where near the professional job DFW described. 120 to 800 grit wrapped around a square gum eraser gives you a flat smooth edge. AE edge dressing followed by a couple coats of neutral Lincoln Wax burnished with a nylon stocking has held up to year round wear outdoors in Chicago weather. No bleeding whatsoever.
Every AE pair I have is finished flat and not exceptionally smooth.

TL;DR if you feel like it you can drastically improve your factory edges at home.
Case closed.

I know, can't disagree. However, you can order one during the trunk show at no additional cost. Perhaps that's why Ms. Caleres did it.

@Shoonoob You just reminded me that I also need to sand down my brown Cambridge seconds soles. They will look much better in a light tan.

And of course there are some color options that you can only get if you do it yourself.

Yeah, it will be tough to tell until we see the real thing. Here are pictures, left to right, of bourbon, natty and whiskey in the shade and in the sun. I have a pair of whiskey LWBs on order, so they would have to compete with the bourpon and natty already.

Your whiskey looks a lot like my Ravello...

I have many pair of brown and olive trousers, 2 of my favorite colors and most shoes go fine with them, although for some reason when wearing them I tend to go with Black, Brown, Burgundy as the primary shoe colors. I once wore my Alden Blue suede NST's with a pair of olive trousers, got more compliments from women in the office than any other shoe I have ever worn.

Very good, thank you. I don't have any olive (save a solid cotton pair that I have worn once) and would like to break out of the standard grays and blues.

As below, one of the guys doesn't like black shoes with brown.

I guess the ladies really do like blue suede shoes!!

My opinion (and I have more olive and brown pants than anyone in their right mind would have), I would not wear black shoes with patterns 1 or 3. I definitely prefer brown shoes with olives and depending on how dark the pattern I like burgundy with olive. Green is the most variable color so a lot depends on where the green falls on the color wheel.
Usually for me it is tougher to pick the shirt/blazer colors to go with olive than the shoes. I think in general earthy colors mix well.

very interesting. You wouldn't even wear black with the brown #1? The green is a pretty dark color and isn't as obvious as the photo shows (I don't think).

It would be my first pair of serious olive dress pants.... trying to branch out, no pun intended! I never considered the shirt option.... I guess earth patterns should win out?

BONUS: Ronald Reagan loved the brown suit. Here he is looking dapper with what looks to be some sweet spade soled shoes and forward pleats. Color is either burgundy or brown shoes.

So funny - I was doing the same thing a few weeks ago - trying to play with options to go with navy and green.

[edit] And no, not for a kilt.

Hahah fantastic!! Those patterns really pop.

Having a tough time deciding on mine...

You can get that in the trunk show.
I could, but I can't. I wandered into something on the Alden side that was compelling enough for me to part with the Bourbon HM's I'd managed to find and another pair of boots I really loved because there isn't disposable funds for a pair at this point.

It seems strange that they'd have Dainite in the new standard offering (which I think is fantastic BTW - AE keeps sending good signals) when the default shell sole is JR, and there's not even an option for it.

It's hard to see me ever buying Dainite again. Just dislike it, especially on boots since you're generally talking a double-layer sole...

If I ever wore black shoes with brown pants I don't remember doing it. When I pick my trousers in the morning I open my closet to pair shoes the browns and olives always looked much better for browns than black.
I like black shoes but find they get worn much less than the burgundy, navy, browns or even greens. I think the dark browns are more harmonious in tone with both colors.
I can't even think of any brown pant, from tan to chocolate that would look the best with a black belt/shoe/boot.
For dress shirts with olive trousers I think white would be the easiest and maybe off white. Sometimes a pale blue. I tend to like a white dress shirt with a navy pattern to break up the starkness. Sportshirts are easier. Nuetral oxfords, heathers in solids. Patterns are what I generally wear if a casual shirt is needed. Sometimes I hunt plaids that will tie back to the olive trousers. Again heathers tend to work very well with earthy colors.
Honestly it takes more thinking than most colors. If I have trouble with a new olive pant I put it on the bed and grab a lot of shirts and fan them out. Something always pops out, generally a few.
