Sounds like a wonderful effort as regards AE's shell cordovan. I will be very interested in seeing some of the new stuff.

It sure does. I wonder if this is going to be something like the finish that Alden applies to its shells. I also wonder if it is something that can be done when sending mine in for refinishing and resoling.

Anybody have the Bradley 2291 Burgundy Genuine Shell Cordovan? I'm currently considering getting this one next..

One of my favorites. Unfortunately my pair displays welts in the rain or I'd wear them a lot more. Very comfortable, classic styling. The only thing I would do different is adding a double sole (non reverse welt, a la the Cambridge)

Once they do welt, do they heal fairly well? I wouldn't intentionaly wear them when it rains, but unforseen accidents do occur.

Quick question regarding fit:

I just bought a pair of Hinsdales (wingtip derby) at Nordstrom Rack in 13D. They are on the 8 last. The left foot fits snuggly but well and the right is pinching my pinky toe. My only other pair of AEs I own are the Sanfords (cap toe derby) in 13D. They are on the 7 last, and they fit like a DREAM. So either the last doesn't work for me or these are mislabeled C widths.

I know it is possible to widen shoes just a tad, which is really all these need. Is it worth it to try, or should I return them?

No expert, but different lasts' will often equate to a different fit or size. So this isn't that unusual. I would first investigate what other sizes they have availible and see if you could trade them in. In regards to stretching or breaking the ones you have in I'm sure some people with this knowledge will eventually show up.

Each is different. My Bradleys do heal well, a little damp towel and a bit of brushing and they're gone. I have other shells that simply look ugly until they are brushed, and still others that shed water like a duck. No way to determine beforehand how a particular pair of shells will handle it.

Also, I don't really live in fear of rain or anything, I just choose to wear a different pair if the forecast calls for rain. (or wear tingles overshoes if needed)

Regarding the shell cordovan finish changes: Just checking out some of the pictures on their website, the webgems seem to have a noticeably different finish on them. See for yourself:

Do any of you use the Dalton and/or Fifth Street as a foul weather boot? I'm looking for something dressy I can put a topy on and apply some Obenauf’s HDLP to. Is this crazy or should I just go with something with a rubber sole?
