Double monk strap

I plan on my next shoe purchase being an EG dark oak double monk strap. Is there any reason the RTW double monk offered by EG, as well as almost every other double monk I've ever seen, has a double sole? Is there any reason not to get a single sole?

I've also never seen a double monk, or any monk for that matter, on a chisel-toed last. Would a double monk be better suited to the 888 or 82? Also, cap toe or plain toe?

You're right, chisel toe monks do seem rare. Personally I like plaintoe monks, although some of the captoes are nice too.

I think plain toe is for me; cap toe is a little too busy. The chisel does look good.

On further thought I'm thinking I'd prefer a brown double monk on the 888, but a black single monk would probably be better on the 82.

The double monk is a sturdier design. But I would get it with a single sole, too, and a chisel toe last. I've seen bespokes in that combination in both brown and black leather, and actually, the latter was as stunning a shoe as black can make.

I think the EG Fulham on the 888 or 82, in, say, Burnt Pine, would be stunning.

Like LeatherSoul's ones here?

I saw those earlier and thought there was something not quite right about them (to me at least). Had a little think and decided that I didn't like the buckles being so far apart and hence the strap being so wide - I think for this style of shoe (with the apron front), it looks nicer if the buckles are close together, like with these:

Alas, I don't tend to have much luck with monkstraps of any kind, due to my low instep. Maybe if I go half a size down...

Here's a Taryn Rose double monkstrap with a single thickness sole. While the Taryn Rose ones are half the price of Edward Green ones, they are especially comfortable.
