To ticket pocket or not

Hey Guys:
I'm getting ready to do the Chan thing when they come through my area in November. I am going to order a classic, 2-button navy suit with double vents. I love ticket pockets and was wondering if a ticket pocket would be out of place on a more conservative suit such at this. This is a suit that I will use for the office for many years to come, and not for Sunday afternoon polo matches.

I would only get a ticket pocket with a double-breasted suit, but that's just me.

I have a RLPL blue blazer (SB), which has a ticket pocket-- I really should have bought my standard navy blue suit with one, as well. It sets it slightly apart from the crowd, yet nothing too fashion-forward or outlandish.

i would only put a ticket pocket on a sportcoat, not a suit, unless it was meant to be a casual suit, but that's just me. do what works for you.

I'm in the minority here, but I don't really like ticket pockets. First of all, they *are* a bit trendy, and in a few years, when they are no longer, will just look a little affected. Fine if you are trying to give the impression of being a rich dilletante, not so good for client meetings. My main objection, though, is aesthetic. I like flap pockets only on very casual jackets usually to be worn with jeans and besom pockets otherwise. I find that ticket pockets can just break up the line of an otherwise very elegant suit.

I say yes to ticket pockets. On everything. Including t-shirts.

I had these on sport jackets and casual suits (e.g. glen plaid). I thought too that it would be better if the suit had an English cut to it (higher waisted; waist suppression; longer in cut). Maybe even the accessories might have a British feel (e.g. spread collar shirt). Roetzel like Matadorpoeta says simply that they're most often found on sport jackets.

I like them for utilitarian reasons (I actually use them) but I've stopped ordering them on recent suits. While they are a more casual touch, I don't think they need to be restricted to sport coats, or SB vs DB suits.

Heck, I saw an informercial for the Dean Martin Show on home video, it had a clip of him wearing a tuxedo with hacking pockets and a ticket pocket. Now there's a look I'd not soon recommend to anyone, but he still looked a heck of a lot better than today's stars with the 3-button tuxedo/Prince of Wales collar/long tie look.

Ticket pockets add another horizontal element to a suit jacket, which adds width. Judging from your picture, you may not benefit from that - I certainly don't.

I like them. You used to not see them very much, so when you did, you'd kind of take notice. But now, with even Banana Republic putting them on their blazers, they're not as unusual. I'd hesitate to call them "trendy" since they've been around for as long as men have needed to carry tickets. Perhaps the slanted pockets and ticket pocket might be considered trendy, but straight flap pockets with a straight flap ticket pocket look great, in my opinion.

I just had my first bespoke suit made and had a ticket pocket on there. I love it and plan on actually using it.

LOL. Really I'm not fat -- 5'10" 185 -- it's just that I have big fat cheeks. Always have. I'm pretty trim on the belly side.

I wonder how the classical standards of taste in suiting address this subject of ticket pockets...?   I thought that ticket pockets were not for city/business suits but rather country/sports coats.  Therefore, according to classical clothing standards, a ticket pocket on a city suit may be mixing and matching genres and would be considered an affectation.   I'm not sure though...

I rather like it on the double-breasted. The head of the kiton custom shop at BG is always sporting a wide array of double-breasted suits with ticket pockets, with marvelous results.
