Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I figured it was better than starting a new one. I'm having trouble matching shirts to a new houndstooth suit I have:
hounstooth1.JPG
All I can do is white right now. I know it's kind of hard to tell from the photo, but the houndstooth is blue/white. I've tried blue shirts, but most shades of blue look a little off unless it exactly coordinates with the shades of blue in the jacket. Otherwise it just looks off. Any ideas for good shirts to coordinate with houndstooth? I don't mind sticking with white for now, but I want to get some more combinations out of it. Addendum: the buttons actually are correctly-placed... it's just the last-minute pocket square puffing it out.

I wish I could pull this off. I've never gone "full houndstooth" -- meaning I've stopped at the blazer. Other than custom, are there other avenues for procuring a houndstooth suit vs. just a blazer?

This thread made me scratch the same itch I had 40 yrs ago and I went out and got another black and white worsted houndstooth three piece suit last year. The world is at equilibrium again for me.

Culverwood, could you possibly send some pictures of your suit ?!

This is my first itch and I am going for it. However, I have a hard time figuring whether I want white (black & white) or grey (black and grey) houndstooth..
Any help appreciated

Thanks for your response

The pic looks very nice !!! the waistcoat seems to add a little something, although I was aiming for a 2 piece originally. Is this flannel ?
My question now I guess is how does it look from further away, is it sort of light grey, how well do you see the pattern ?

If you see the 2 examples below (one white and 2 greys), it looks like the grey houndstooth adds a little more complexity from further away.
I think both look very nice though

It depends on the size of the houndstooth and your eyesight, from a distance it looks light grey as the check is small. I think a larger check in black and white would look too flashy/spivy.

It is not a flannel.
