I wear dark socks. I match to the shoes....usually grey or black.

I actually did wear charcoal with this suit a while ago. Managed to find the pic.

Folks were not pleased.

I have a pair of navy/sky blue windowpane slacks that would look good with that color jacket.

I know you don't want to hear this, but the first thing you might consider is finding clothes that both fit you, and are cut properly for you. Start with the basics and work your way up. What size are you? Mike
Colour always looks wrong when I shoot in the john (that came out all wrong). The pants are definitely charcoal. I'm not sure if you were referring to the pants or jacket as being part of a suit, but the pants are, the jacket isn't. Didn't wear the whole suit because I wore it the day before last. Self-measurement (actually my gracious fiancee helped) had me at a 42 in the chest. Maybe a 43. I agree about the cut. All this slim **** doesn't work for me, because I'm not. I'm coming to terms with this, but I have a limited wardrobe, and budget. Unfortunately, I bought my bed, and now I have to wear it, if you'll forgive the nearly-incomprehensible metaphor. Maybe it's just me, but it's hard as hell finding decent suits at an okay price in Toronto. I don't really have the money to just walk into Harry Rosen and get fitted for a beautifully-tailored $2000 suit, nor do I have the time, experience, or know-how to sift through the piles of garbage at Tom's in the hopes of finding the hidden gems. The big box stores are full of "designer" crap, and the smaller shops are all very contemporary, which isn't working for me. I've been too scared to buy online, since I don't have a "good" suit I can use as a basis for judging whether the measurements work for me. It's been a bit of an ordeal.

Don't worry. You're not alone in this. Though, if you don't mind, I prefer the left side.

Anywho, trying to incorporate some of the advice from yesterday, especially that of Phat Guido about how to take pics (Thanks again). Hopefully some of it comes through. Being Texas in the spring, the wind was up.

  • good to see you took the photography advice. your proportions came out a lot better
  • the tie is very nice ... green actually goes well with brown so kudos for pulling that off.

and the bad:
  • avoid black and brown, particularly brown suits with black shoes. i think brown suede or darker brown calf would have been a lot better
  • work with a tailor to measure the length of your arms, and then work on your shirts and jacket sleeves, so that you have a consistent amount of cuff showing. it would surprise you that most people have different arm lengths and RTW shirts/suits dont account for that. that is causing your sleeves to look too long on one arm vs the other
  • look around here and you would see a lot of pictures on how jackets and pants should fit. with time you will find tweaks to things like the drape of your pants, shoulders etc.

Great look Aeglus. Wish I could pull off the Morrissey, but my hair's a bit thick.

PG - Details on the suit fabric? How does it hold up under hot weather?

Spoo - tie is fine, suit is dope, shoes I actually don't mind, but yeah, they're a bit distracting.

mktits - you're getting there. Some good advice given.

NYR - nice sportcoat.

Acrid - no problem with pink shirts from me, but in general, I don't see too many light tie / dark suit combos that look good. A darker tie would work better here.

EdgarAllenPwn - dark pants work waaaaaaay better

Fred - nice tie. Silk? or wool?

Much better.

Brown shoes.

Shirt with shorter sleeve length. Or pull down the sleeves on the jacket as they may have bunched up. Probably the former.

Shoulders are too big and the sleevehead is likely off as well. This is causing those indentations at the top of the sleeve. These are known here as "divots."

Colors work much better today, I like the tie.

Either the lapel rolled funny, or the suit needs to be pressed.

We can always count on you to deliver! Love the MC/SW&D harmony. TOJ? Looks like their calf bomber to me.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems they're about ~0.25" too long but I don't think I should stress about it too much.
