I go TTS on the Aberdeen. It's a little snug on my little toes, but it only bothers me walking downhill, heh. I'd also say I'm on the wide side of D (i.e. if I get measured on a Brannock when my feet are swollen after a day of hard walking I'll come out as an E).

Hey guys can anyone shed some light on the Aberdeen last?
I know people have said it's a narrow last with a large heel cup. Also people say that it runs true to size. Does everyone who wears these size up one width being it a narrow last?
ie. Barrie 11.5 D to Aberdeen 12 E?
I own shoes on the barrie, van, m58 and trubalance jut not sure of this last.

I have a 12D Aberdeen loafer that is a little tight vs. I have an 11.5D Barrie PTB that is a bit loose...

Your results may vary depending on how you want your shoes to fit.

This. I own 3 pairs of Aberdeen shoes in 3 different sizes - 10.5D, 10.5E, 10E. All "fit", though imperfectly. The 10.5D is a touch tight, but okay with thin socks. The 10.5E is a touch big in the toe box and loose in the heel, but okay with thick socks. The 10E is a touch short (4th toe on one foot occasionally rubs against the upper) but not terrible overall. Right now I feel best in the 10.5D, but last month I felt best about the 10E. YMMV. There is no substitute for wearing them for a while, I'm sorry to say.

This might be kind of a stupid question, but I'm getting to the point now where it's bothering me enough to ask:
For some reason, I'm unable to get my laces to stay tied on my black cordovan captoes. They're the round, waxy laces. No matter how I tie them, they always seem to get undone after walking a few dozen feet or so.
Any tips on how to maintain a better knot? :D

This may or may not be helpful for you:

:)

I'll be sure to give this a shot. Thank you!

I was thinking of picking up a pair of boots on the Leydon last.

My best fitting lasts are Aberdeen & Hampton.

Based on the chart it appears that both of these lasts are narrower than the Leydon. When I sent an inquiry over to Adam at AOC he advised that they Leydon maybe more narrow. Can anybody provide any insight/

My sense is that not everyone can wear every last.

I wear a 10D Barrie and had to give away a 10E Aberdeen because it was too wide at the heel. No way a 10D Aberdeen would have enough room for my toes.

Getting the shape right is as important as getting the right size. The size only describes how the shape is scaled up and down.

I'm the guy who received a pair of whiskey shell LWBs yesterday that were not only the wrong size (even though the box was correct), but had defects that, in my opinion, should disqualify them even from being sold as "seconds." I was pretty hard on Alden, and based on that pair, deservedly so. It's only fair that I report that my replacement whiskey shell LWBs arrived today, and they're as close to perfect as I've ever had in a pair of Aldens. I'm very happy.

If all Alden shells were made to the standard of my replacement pair, no one would be able to ding Alden for QC problems ever again. C'mon Alden, we know you *can* turn out a sublime pair of shoes. Please be more consistent in doing so.

My new, replacement whiskey LWBs:

To be fair, Adam has extremely high standards on shoes that he considers firsts quality. I got a pair of what he deemed as "seconds" that were in much better shape than some of the QC issue shoes i've seen in this thread.
Agree. I'd say his standards are quite high.
