Few shots of the Frans Boone snuff suede dovers this morning. Springtime is fleeting here in the south.

Wow...amazing.

I am so glad that you got the size that fits you best.

Nothing like finally zeroing in your Alden size after discouragement and failed attempts.

Congrats.

bought the same boots from TSM about a week ago, my first Aldens and my first shell cordovan. I love these boots.Everyone outside of Alden talks about how clunky the barrie last is but I think it's perfect for these boots. I'm starting to understand why you guys love you some shell cordovan.

For those bemoaning the rarity these days of brown shell Cordovan colors, keep in mind that color 8 is fungible:

Agreed. I like the darker tips on them.

I don't think I'll ever do this - rather let the shoe take its natural course - but generally, the red hue of the dye is the first to disappear.

The purple paint burns off, leaving the actual color of #8 shell.

Thanks my man!

I cannot get enough of the color on these, easily the best eggplant tone on any of my Alden color 8 footwear. Only the second wear and the roll are coming full steam, it's pretty easy to tell where the toe reinforcement is on these.

This is a little bit misleading.

What do you mean by "actual" color? The color of the shell before it is dyed by Horween? Well, you know what that is, that's undyed shell. It's light tan. I saw thousands of undyed shells at Horween last week.

Or do you mean the way Color #8 looks when it goes out the door at Horween? Color #8 shell is very dark burgundy when it goes out the door at Horween. Again, I saw it last week. I handled several Color #8 shells. They're super dark and a very deep burgundy. Alden's finish makes Color #8 look a little bit more purple, more like eggplant, but Color #8 shell is definitely not chocolate brown or brown at all (like that blog post about windowsill-lightening the color #8 wingtip boots) when it is finished at Horween.
