Is there really much of a difference? If you take it well and acknowledge you know they are laughing at you, it means they're pretty much laughing with you. Laughing at yourself is one of the easiest things to do and has been shown to make you more relatable to others.

I have bone growth on my right wrist due to being hit repeatedly there by a shinai. Also, I have a strong callous on my left thumb that is impervious to bites from small angry psittacines.
