Watched three really good docs over the weekend.

The First Saturday in May - Fantastic film for racing fans or fans of American lore and tradition in general.

Street Fight - Great doc on the 2002 Newark mayoral race. City politics at its basest.

Dominick Dunne: After the Party - Insightful documentary of a man that was far more humble and engaging than I had imagined.

Basically, this film tracks the steps taken in the original. For that very reason, it is superior to both its prequels (both were abominations). Neve Campbell still can't act her way out of a wet brown paper bag, Ms. Cox gets hotter by the day, and Mr. Cox is still running around with some form of mental handicap. It follows the simple formula with a minor addition: mobile phones, laptops and cameras are ubiquitous. Oh yeah, we also have the new generation of kids to slash. Also, peppered throughout are one-liners that could have been penned by Freddy Krueger. Wes Craven does a good job of keeping it a horror whodunit right up to the final few scenes. He can't save it from being insubstantial. Watch it for a bit of fun, but don't expect anything groundbreaking.

I watched A Single Man finally earlier in the week. I had no idea what to expect going into it. I have to admit it was pretty well done considering the director's background isn't film. As expected, the wardrobe is probably the best wardrobe in any film ever. Okay that might be a slight exaggeration but to say it has one of the best wardrobes I've ever seen on the screen is still a major understatement.

Best movies I've seen recently:

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (Lumet 2007)- unreal movie. Pulp fiction esque. Very underated.
Casino (1996)- absolute gangster classic.
Inglourious Basterds- one of the greatest movies of all time.

Dinner for Schmucks Had a few good laughs, but nothing great. The mousterpieces are the best part of the film. Also the guy from Flight of the Conchords is pretty awesome.
