I'm normally all for Kanye's music, as he likes collaborations and pushes the envelope of traditional rap, but I'm not sure I like his new song with Bon Iver

I'll give the album a couple more listens, maybe it'll grow on me.

I like the Kanye but it's self-indulgent in the wrong ways. Gave it 3.5 stars in the review I wrote for the newspaper.

I can't believe Pitchfork gave it a 10. It never hands that out. Not that Pitchfork is the arbiter of taste, but I just thought they'd have higher standards.

Then again, they gave Das Racist an 8.9

Pitchfork does hand out 10.0s, but the last one was in 2002 for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Usually they reserve 10.0s for reissues, though, you're right. And the Das Racist mixtape is great. Regardless, it's more than just a the-music-is-that-good thing behind P4k's 10.0.

It's about the preceding backstory to the album, the cult of Kanye, his status in the music world, right now, the place of the album in his career arc, P4k's place as arbiter of taste (which they do actively court; in other words -- theya re more conscious than ever of their role in writing the history for this major world-class musician and are trying to fill that role, even if the album itself is ehhhhhh), and so on. About P4k's self-image almost more than Kanye and the album.

Basically it's giving 10.0 more to Kanye the persona and Kanye the pop star than the album itself.

^^ that's what makes Rolling Stone suck so much - they hand out 4 stars like they're giving candy away at Halloween. At least P4k (if dickishly) said, "hey, this is actually kind of mediocre, so we're only going to give it a 6 or a 4." I hope they don't start kow-towing to the industry. I prefer music snobs to be, well...snobby.

Kunk, Death in June is kinda depressing. Put in some Switchblade Symphony or I'm gonna start worrying about you.

Nine Inch Nails, I discovered them recently...

... I knew they existed, but I always thought that Trent Reznor was a clown.

A friend of mine made me a compilation and there was one song I liked without knowing it was NIN, and I downloaded all their albums.
