Romantic Manhattan Restaurants

So-

A buddy of mine is coming here to propose to his lovely lady. He wants to entire weekend to be enchanting and memorable...not just the proposal.

I want to give him some romantic restaurant suggestions. Please, no "hot" chefs or dining rooms full of the smug and hip...or nasty hostesses and aloof waitrons. On the other hand, no tourist traps or Bridge-and-Tunnel bait.

Ideas Gentlemen?

there are some good places in the west village. They are small but very romantic. Also check out little Italy depending on the night.

River Cafe, Brooklyn. Unfreakingbelievable views of Manhattan. Wonderful food. Magnificent and friendly service. Especially helpful sommelier.

Mas - in a rustic sort of way
Bouley - if you want something more formal

If it were me, I would go to Blue Hill at Stone Barns up in Tarrytown but this would need to work with the rest of their agenda. I would not do Blue Hill in Manhattan

we had a great experience at La Grenouille, the people around our table sharing wine and champagne...doubt that happens too often though.

barge music (if they like classical music) followed by the river cafe is great. They are right next to each other.
