congrats! and a very evocative post. but just to be a nit-picker (well, i do think it's important) ... when wine geeks talk about "terroir", it's not that a wine makes you imagine a certain place. it's that wines from that place, even if made by different producers, share a set of sensory qualities. still, as i said, nice description and congrats on the raise.

Brian Loring and Gary V were discussing this on the Thunder Show.

Nice pics (as always) and good write up.

Cheers!

Yeah that's what I was trying to get at with my post, that it both had terroir and was evocative of place, sort of a Proustian madeleine cake that transported one back to a special time and place both through emotional associations and actual terroir or climat characteristics...a slippery slope for sure to try and combine...especially for a novice writter such as myself.

Thanks again for the kind words and critique!

It's so true for the most part but just so hard sometimes when you have but one bottle. When is the right time to pop a nice bottle? I'm starting to believe that it's when you desire to drink it!

Thanks again. I'm still trying to sort out my prose style.

Well, that is your grenache wine. Vaynerchuck said it was available for $25 in NY. No idea where, though. KL talks directly to you, Pio. He wants to know why people don't realize how good the prices are for French wine these days.

I have started to listen! It's not too late for me.

Interesting article here:

http://www.winesandvines.com/templat...%20Winegrowers

Upson said he has seen little improvement in white tablecloth restaurant sales, which were down 20% last year. He's responded by using up inventory: selling it by the glass. "Wines by the glass are now half of wine sales at some restaurants, as diners cut back on ordering bottles," he said.

Upson also noted that the current retail market is price driven. "The buyer who used to pay $75 has figured out that that wine is not much different in quality from one selling for $35. There's simply no market for wines over $40."

Knight added, "Unless they see that it's 60% off, they won't buy $40 wines."
