Is Uniqlo worth a 5 hour drive from DC?

Totally not clothing related, but hit up the Shake Shack. So delicious, and will keep you going on your trip. Chinatown buses are definitely rickety, 100% shady, but cheaper than the others as well as having the most flexible schedules.Originally Posted by applegreen

uniqlo is most certainly not worth the trip alone, sure, you could go there and spend a crapload of money on boring basics, but it's new york. you can get almost anything there. going to new york for uniqlo is like going to a hooker for a handshake. yes it's cheap and safe, but your money could be better spent elsewhere.

Love the "Hooker for a handshake" analogy. I see your point about getting boring basics in NY, but the thing is, in DC I can't find quality basics that fit well at that pricepoint...where can I get "exciting" clothing in NY for a lower price? Century 21?
I just did the 5 hour drive from Montreal to NYC. I did go to Uniqlo but didnt buy anything. The place was a mad house, 1 hour lines to pay! I did stop at Self Edge tho. That area of NYCwould take a whole day to explore.Originally Posted by Munchy
It is only like that during the weekends. Place is mad dead during the weekdays(no lines for the fitting room or register). Reading this thread made me realize how lucky I am to live right by NYC.

So please educate me...what is uniqlo, and why all the fuss? I just learned of this store/company. The clothes on the website are ok looking, but very cheap in price.

I have family in NYC and visit pretty regularly. Uniqlo is nice compared to the stores here in DC but it is not worth going just for it. But if you are going to other stores it is a nice stop along the way.
And you will be paying way more than 20 bucks for tolls coming and going from DC. I take the train, no smelly, sleezy bus or worrying about traffic and parking, I take the earliest train from BWI and get into the city at 7am, for me it comes to about 100 bucks with my discounts. You will pay about that much or more driving+gas+tolls+parking.

I just wanted to mention that there are plenty of other good reasons to visit New York. Not just Uniqlo. So if the choice is "drive five hours, go to uniqlo, drive five hours home," then no, it's probably not worth it. But if the choice is "spend the weekend visiting new york, and visit Uniqlo," then yes, worth it. OK? OK.
