On a more serious note I would say tie pins. They can be simple and elegant, a simple pearl with a pin on one side. Or diamond encrusted spidersif you like...

If my memory serves me right, a bespoke lace jabot is a sartorial finishing touch that separates the men from the boys.

My $0.02 input.
Good manners and the strict observance of etiquette under all circumstances.
Etiquette towards family, friends, business associates, right down to the beggar on the street.
The observance of respecting anothers dignity, even when offended by them. Hard to do!
Diplomacy. The practice of making the other person feel important.
The clothing, cars, boats, houses & cottages, no matter how expensive, cannot hide an ill-mannered person for long. Good manners above all, is free to learn, costs nothing to give, and can open doors as well as heal wounds. A well mannered man, exquisitely appointed, strong yet sensitive, is the true gentleman. This combination is what would have probably made people (historically) say of a man, 'Now there is a real Dandy'.

that's the definition of a gentleman.

we are talking about a "dandy"

has no correlation to being a gentleman. a dandy's all about his clothes.

Another useful way to think about difference is in the combat techniques. A gentleman will form his hands into fists and engage in fisticuffs. In contrast, a dandy will fight using an open hand, and a downward, slapping motion.

Both have aggression in common, however, and are to be feared.
