I have a copy of the Vass book and I like it a lot, he talks a lot about eastern European styles rather than the English and American ones you find in Roetzel.
I think it is a bit strange however that he doesn't mention the wood pegged construction method even though many of the pictures in his book are of that type of shoe, and they seem to be common in the Austro-Hungaran school.
